Obituary for Sherry Ann Staricha

Sherry Ann Staricha, a resident of Highland Township, died at her home on October 13, 2016 after battling anaplastic thyroid cancer.  She was 75 years old.

Born on February 14, 1941 in Milford, Michigan, the daughter of Donald and Hilda Mae Richman Lawrence, Sherry grew up in Milford, where she was a graduate of Milford High School.
Following high school she studied at the University of Michigan and graduated with her Bachelor Degree from Oakland Community College. Sherry lived in the Milford/Highland area her entire life.

Sherry went on to work in the human resources department for the General Motors Proving Ground and the GM Tech Center for over thirty-three years.  In “retirement” she enjoyed working as a hygiene coordinator with Charlick, Springstead, & Wilson Dental Associates in Brighton, Michigan, for the past 16 years.  Sherry was very organized, with an attention for detail in all her affairs. She was known to all as a "class act", always wearing beautiful clothing accessories and jewelry.

Sherry's first date with John Staricha was at the Appeteaser restaurant in Milford.  For John it was love at first sight and they married on July 12, 1998 at the Milford Presbyterian Church.  They made their home on White Lake, in Highland MI and enjoyed their large family of children and grandchildren who were always her #1 priority.  Sherry enjoyed golf, quilting, knitting and sewing and was always present at her daughters and grandchildren’s sporting or special events.  She was a devoted and active member of the Milford Presbyterian Church where she sang in the choir and started the Prayer Quilt group.

Sherry was diagnosed with anaplastic thyroid cancer in September of 2016, which was untreatable. With her strong faith, her church, and her family and many friends at her side she immediately set about handling affairs that were special to her, held her family close and loved them dearly every day that God gave her this past month.

In addition to her beloved husband John, she is survived by her daughters, Donna (Bart) Charlick, Lynn (Floyd) Coponen, Lisa (Todd) Charlick; step-son, Mitchell (Kandi) Staricha; step-daughter, Sheri (Dennis) Moore; grandchildren, Grant (Tyler) Charlick, Ashley (Robert “Bub”) McDonald, Eric and Ryan Coponen, Amanda (Steve) Lyman, Travis Charlick, Kelly and Leah Staricha, and Grace Moore; great grandchildren, Addie, Emersyn, and Bryce Lyman, Brady McDonald; brother, Robert (Barbara) Lawrence; sisters, Mary Lou (Bill) Hitchcock, Sally (Larry) Rohdy; in-laws, Matthew (Florence) Staricha, Melvin (Peggy) Staricha, Margaret (the late Gordon) Eilola and many nieces, nephews and dear friends who join her family in both mourning her passing and giving thanks to God for her life among them.

Visitation will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty St., Milford, on Sunday, October 16, from 1-6PM and Monday, October 17, from 4-8PM. A Funeral Service will be held at the Milford Presbyterian Church, 238 N. Main St., Milford, on Tuesday, October 18, at 11AM with Pastor Bryant Anderson officiating. Memorials may be made in her name for cancer research.
