Obituary for Shirley Helen Drost

Shirley Helen Drost, a resident of Milford, MI, died surrounded by her family on July 16, 2019. She was 67 years old.

Shirley Drost was born October 3rd, 1951, to a world that didn’t deserve her. She always stayed active and did everything with a smile. She was on the student council in middle school, she helped take care of her younger brothers as they were growing up, and she still made time for her friends. She met Michael shortly after high school and they have been together ever since. Before she had her own children, she would take her nieces and nephews to Yogi Bear Campground and spoil them with fun. Shirley and Michael both went on to become licensed builders. They built their first house on Garner Road in Milford when Trevor was 1 and Brittany was 2. Building a house with two toddlers in tow wasn’t easy, but there was no stopping Shirley when she had her mind set. And she didn’t stop there. They sold that house and immediately built the second one as Brittany hit 1st grade.

Shirley was born to be a mother. She was the absolute best mom, always putting her children first, even before herself. She spoiled her children like there was no tomorrow and she still had ample love to give to the rest of the family. She loved to host holidays, and Christmas’s at the Drost house were a tradition. She made sure her children had the best childhood she could provide. She was always active in her children’s activities: Girl Scouts, Soccer, Hockey, Figure Skating, Track, Dance, Colorguard, Cross Country. She never backed down from a challenge.

Her employment included being a Dental Assistant; working at Henry Ford Hospital (where she met some of her best friends); and finally G & D Accounting as a bookkeeper where she retired. Retirement didn’t slow her down. She was working on starting her own small business as a private bookkeeper and constantly talked about flipping houses (no matter how often people told her she was too old). She planned to update her home, list it and travel the country in the RV she had just bought before settling down in Florida. She even talked about flipping houses in Florida! There was nothing this woman couldn’t do.
She will be greatly missed by everyone who met her.
We love you, Shirley. You were a wonderful wife, the best Mom, and everyone’s favorite Aunt.

Shirley is survived by her beloved husband, Michael; children, Trevor and Brittany Drost; her mother, Johanna Kosis; siblings, Sue Reaume, Al Kosis and Ed (Cheri) Kosis as well as many nieces, nephews, close friends and extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her father, Albert Kosis
