Obituary for Shirley Jean Snook

Shirley Jean Snook, a resident of White Lake Twp. and a native of Detroit, died on April 22, 2014 at the age of 84.

Born in Detroit on February 16, 1930, the daughter of George August Fenster and Grace Caroline (Staub) Fenster, Shirley grew up in Detroit where she was a graduate of Mackenzie High School. She married her childhood sweetheart, Earl W. Snook, on October 22, 1952 in Detroit MI., and they made their home on Trinity in Detroit, where they were blessed with the births of three children.

Shirley and Earl moved to White Lake Township in 1972 where she took up work with Oxbow Elementary School, first serving as a volunteer and later as a tech in the schools library. After several years with the school she accepted a position with the White Lake Township offices. She worked in the Townships Building Department for many years, before retiring in 1999. Her job afforded her the opportunity to get to know many in the community and she enjoyed being a part of many social clubs, starting with the Rainbow Girls in her early years, President of the Cedar Island Home Owners Association, involved in the Christmas in April program and finally a member of the Red Hat Society. She was ever social and a good friend to many, keeping many friendships from childhood.

She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and recent great grandmother. Her grandchildren, who affectionately knew her as Granny Snook", will dearly miss her.

She is survived by her sons, Ken (Barb) Snook and Gary (Carol) Snook; her daughter, Sue (Rick) Hooks; grandchildren, Erin (Cory) Lewber, Lorianne (Tom) Barnes, Alexandra Snook, Forrest Hooks, Joe, Jeff, and Jeremy Snook and a great grandson, Colton Lewber; her nieces, nephews and many dear friends who join her family in mourning her passing and giving thanks for her life among them.

A Funeral Service will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty St., Milford, on Saturday, April 26, at 10AM. Burial will follow at Oakland Hills Cemetery in Novi. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Friday, April 25, from 3-9PM. Memorials may be made in her name to the American Cancer Society. For further information please phone 248-684-6645.
