Obituary for Sr. Dennis R. DeMott

Dennis R. DeMott, Sr., age 70 and a resident of Highland, lost his long battle with cancer on December 12, 2010.
Born in Flint, Michigan on February 17,1940, Dennis grew up in Flint where he was a graduate of Beecher High School. Following high school he worked his farm and later was employed by Fisher Body. In 1975, he began the DeMott Adult Foster Care Home which he has operated for many years with his son, Dennis Jr.

Leaving a legacy of the love of drag racing to his family, he participated in 1/4 mile track racing in many locations including Milan, Mid-Michigan Dragway and Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Other hobbies and interests included darts, shuffleboard, four-wheeling and snowmobiling.

Dubbed the 'king of one-liners', Dennis had a wonderful sense of humor. He enjoyed everyone and hanging out over coffee. Considered by his children to be the best father anyone could ever have, he also maintained a special connection with each of his grandchildren.

Dennis is survived by children, Dennis Jr. (Jackie), Rhonda Hubbard, Deanna (Jerry) Brown, Rod Risner, Robin Risner, and their mother, Sandra Simmons. Also leaves his brothers, Norman, Harold (Mary), Leon (Sherry), twenty grandchildren, five great grandchildren and many dear friends.
He was preceded in death by parents, Ken DeMott & Rexine (Ron) Holbeck, a daughter, Janice Renee (Glenn) Mays, siblings, Lorraine (Richard) Smith, and Keith (Clara).

A Funeral Service will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty St., Milford, on Wednesday, December 15, at 2PM. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10AM until the time of service. Memorials may be made to the family, with checks payable to Dennis Jr. For further information please phone 248-684-6645.
