Stanley J. Hester, a long time resident of Milford, died in the care of his family at Town Commons in Howell on October 14, 2012. He was 84 years old.
Born on April 19, 1928 in Moline, Illinois the youngest son of Stanley and Wilomena �Minnie� Grahn Hester, Stan grew up in Pontiac. A gifted athlete, in high school he played football, basketball and ran track. On a football scholarship, he studied at Alma College where he proudly lived in the gym!
On May 14, 1954 he married Trudy, the love of his life, and they made their home in Milford. Mr. Hester went on to teach Art and coach football in the Walled Lake School District for over thirty years, before his retirement in 1984. He was an active member of the Karls Family YMCA, the Milford Historical Society, and was a fixture in his favorite booth at Dimitri�s Coney Island in Milford, where his art adorns the walls. At home he enjoyed his extensive library of Jazz records including his favorite Red Nichols, for whom he wrote a book.
He was preceded in death by Trudy, his beloved wife of over forty-three years on December 12, 1997, and is survived by sons, Stephen (the late Lana) Hester of Pontiac, Thomas (Dorothy) Hester of NC, and John (Kris) Hester of South Lyon, his daughter, Marie (Mike) Anderson of Brighton, eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
A Funeral Service will be held at the White Lake Presbyterian Church, 4805 Highland Rd., White Lake, on Wednesday, October 17, at 11AM. Burial will follow in Milford Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty St., Milford, on Tuesday 3-9PM and at the church one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made in his name to Carls Family YMCA. For further information please phone 248-684-6645.
