Obituary for Stanley Leonard "Stas" Zasuwa

Stanley Leonard Stas Zasuwa, a resident of Milford, and former resident of Redford Twp., died on September 14, 2010.
Born in Detroit on July 13, 1928, the son of Stanley Joseph and Pauline Krukowski Zasuwa, he grew up in Detroit, where he attended St. Cunegunda Grade School and was a graduate of St. Casimir High School. Following high school he worked as a milkman with Central Creamery, and it was there that he met Theresa Szafarz as she worked behind the counter at the creamery. It was love at first sight.

Stanley went on to attend the Philpot School of Design and began his career as a body designer with the Chrysler Corporation in Highland Park. In his last few years before retirement he worked as a supervisor with the Dodge Truck Interior Trim Division.

In 1948, Stanley and Theresa married at St. Stephens Church in Detroit and made their home in Redford Township. In retirement they moved to Milford, where they have lived for the last twenty-two years, and have been active in the Milford community. Stan was a fixture on the Milford Planning Commission for twenty years, and enjoyed his duties for his condo association, where he was affectionately known as The Super or The Condo Czar. In his spare time he enjoyed his grandchildren, watching the Detroit Tigers, or reading a good book. He was a man of deep faith, devoted to his church and his family, and he will be dearly missed.

In addition to Theresa, his beloved wife of over sixty-two years, he leaves his sons, Gary (Marilyn), Stan (Kathy), Louie (Paula); daughters, Kathy (Karl) Kolbe MD, Lisa (Joe) Richardson, and Maria (Neil) Martinuzzi; twelve grandchildren and two great grandchildren; siblings, Adele, Tony, and Irene, and many in-laws, nieces, nephews, dear friends and his cat, Bogie.

A Funeral Liturgy will be held at St. Marys Catholic Church, 1955 E. Commerce Road, Milford, on Saturday, September 18, at 1PM with Fr. Manuel Chircop officiating. Burial will follow at St. Marys Cemetery. Friends may visit at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty, Milford, on Friday 3-9PM. Vigil Service Friday 7PM. Memorials may be made in his name to The Friends of Aaron Martinuzzi, (for spinal cord injury rehabilitation), 2284 Great Oak Drive, Milford, MI 48380.
