Obituary for Stanley P. Newton

Stanley P. Newton, a longtime resident of Commerce, passed away on May 3, 2012 surrounded by his family. He was 82 years old. Stanley was born July 19, 1929 in Detroit, MI to Pearl and Florence Newton. He graduated from Cass Tech High School in Detroit and on March 14, 1951 was drafted into the US Army. He served during the Korean War and was transferred to the reserves exactly three years later. Stanleys cool car and smooth charm helped him win the heart of Nancy Theisen and the two sweethearts were married at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church on December 18, 1954. The Newton Family began camping in the 1960s and quickly discovered the joy of RVing. Longtime members of the Michigan Knights of the Highway, Stanley and Nancy have RVed to all 48 contiguous states and even made it up to Alaska.

Stanley was a proud patroit and continued to serve his country and his community as a member of the American Legion, The Bisons Sportsmans Club and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. The Old Fart, as he was affectionately nicknamed, loved to feed the birds and share stories of his 31 years at the General Motors Proving Grounds. A good and honest man, Stanley carried with him a deep love for his family and an abiding faith in the Lord.

In addition to Nancy, his beloved wife of 57 years, he is survived by sons Matthew Newton, Mark (Tamara) Newton; grandchildren Brandon (Ashley) Newton, Matthew Newton, Chelsie (Jason) Mullett, Kyle Newton, Garrett Newton; great-grandchildren Kaylyn, Gabriella, Isaiah, Mathew, Kiersten, and Benjamin; sister Phyllis (John) Kraus, and many extended family and friends.

A Funeral Service will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty, Milford, on Monday, May 7, at 5 PM with The Rev. Fr. Ron Anderson officiating. Friends may visit on Monday 1 - 5 PM. Memorials may be made in his name to Seasons Hospice. For further information please phone 248-684-6645.
