Obituary for Steven Alfred Schroeder

Steven Alfred Schroeder, a resident of Highland Township and former resident of Waterford, died at his home in Highland on Saturday, August 2, 2008. He was 47 years old. Born in Manistique, Michigan on August 11, 1960, the son of Alfred & Violet Schroeder, Steven grew up in the small town of Engadine in Michigans Upper Peninsula and was schooled through Engadine Consolidated School system; later graduating in 1978. Five years following graduation, he left the U.P. to obtain his building license & certification and moved to Colorado where he resided briefly to begin his lifetime vocation in building supervision. Shortly after his return to Michigan, he met and fell in love with Susan Schmidt. Steve & Sue were married by Pastor William Merrell at Peace Lutheran Church in Waterford on April 8, 1995 and made their first home in Waterford where they enjoyed neighboring Sues brother, William. Steve continued his work in construction, working for Pulte Homes for over seventeen years and moved his family to their current home in Highland.

Steve, or Jr. as he was called by many colleagues in the construction field, towered over most not solely by his height, but by the greatness of his heart and fun personality. He didnt like to draw attention to himself and was comfortable participating quietly. Still, Steve owned a wonderful sense of humor and whenever he had something to share, people listened. He was an avid fan of NASCAR, faithfully rooting for Dodge drivers such as Rusty Wallace and Kasey Cain and loved catching the races at Michigan International Speedway. The better cook of the household, Steve enjoyed making dinner for his wife & children and also enjoyed hosting many barbeques for friends and extended family. In the past year while away from work, he was especially thrilled to be more involved in his sons sporting endeavors, driving them to games and daily practices with the anticipation of a proud dad that made him blend in as the big kid all the youngsters wanted to be around.

In addition to his beloved wife, Susan and children, Billy, Zachary, Jacob and Nicole, Steven is survived by his mother, Violet Schroeder; brother, John (Rhonda) Greenwald; sisters, Gail (Pete) Miller, Gloria (David) McGuire and Sally (Dan) Brehm. His father & mother-in-law, Don & Judith Schmidt; brother-in-law, William (Joni) Schmidt; numerous nieces, nephews, dear friends and colleagues also survive.

A Funeral Service will be held from Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty, Milford, Thursday, August 7th at 11AM. Pastor William Merrill will officiate. Committal Services will take place privately. Friends may visit Wednesday 3-9PM. Memorials may be made to the Schroeder Childrens Education Fund. For further information please phone 248-684-6645.
