Obituary for Suzan "Sue" Marie Quiney

Suzan Marie Quiney of Milford, died peacefully on Sunday, September 19, 2021. She had aged 68 years.

Sue was born to Lois (Amundson) Kuffel on October 21, 1952 in Farmington. She succeeded her older brother and sister, Donald and Sandra respectively, and preceded her younger brother Michael. Sue grew up on Bridgeman St, and attended Farmington High School where she met Patrick Quiney, who worked at the local A&P.

Sue learned the value of hard work at a young age. She held a position as a bank teller to purchase the family’s first television and telephone. In 1970, while Sue awaited her graduation, Pat wrote her letters while attending boot camp for the U.S. Army. Sue and Pat were married on December 2, 1972, during an immense snow storm. Sue and Pat started their life together in Berkley, before moving to Milford in 1978. Sue raised three beautiful children. She participated in PTA events, lead local girl scout troops, was a regular attendee at the Milford United Methodist Church, all while shuttling children between athletic events. Sue prepared taxes for many people in Milford through the H&R Block. Sue inspired, motivated, and made it possible for all three children to complete college degrees. During this time Pat passed away, leaving Sue to provide strength and demonstrate stability for the entire family. She found work as bookkeeper for rental generator companies in the area, keeping the lights on for many during tumultuous times…just as she kept the lights on for her children during the challenging times of their father’s death. Sue enjoyed traveling and visiting her children. Sue retired from work and loved to play and provide experiences for her grandchildren, like attending Broadway shows, train rides, or amusement parks. She found a way to make every visit special. Sue enjoyed delivering “Meals on Wheels” to serve others when she was able.

Her years in Milford allowed her to solidify relationships that was built from the same love and compassion that she instilled in her family.

Beloved wife of the late Patrick James Quiney, Sue is survived by her children, Melissa (Scott) Westphal, Elizabeth (Ryan) Spaman, and Patrick (Stephanie) Quiney; grandchildren, Isabel and Patrick Spaman, and Andrew Quiney; also many extended family and dear friends.

Sue is preceded in death by her siblings, Donald Kuffel, Sandra (Richard) Clodfelter, and Michael Kuffel.
