Obituary for Suzanne Virginia Haskew

Suzanne Virginia Haskew, a resident of Milford for forty years, died on Saturday, February 11, 2012 at University Hospital Ann Arbor, surrounded by family. She was 72 years old. Born on September 20, 1939 in Saginaw, Suzi was the daughter of Gordon and Joy (Olney) Mann. She graduated from Arthur Hill High School in Saginaw with the class of 1957 and attended University of Michigan before going to the School of Art at the University of Miami (FL). In 1959 she married Raymond G. Fischer. The couple divorced in 1970 and she moved to Milford where she met and fell in love with Harold M. Haskew. Their marriage on July 28, 1978 blended their lives and families and proved a perfect environment for the pursuit of her artistic and literary interests. She was an award-winning painter and poet, an avid reader, enthusiastic friend and artisan. In 1992, she was a founding member and Director of the Village Fine Arts Association and oversaw the growth of the VFAA from a group of volunteers meeting in local coffee shops to a vibrant community resource of over 400 arts-minded area residents. In the mid 1990s she started the first of many Poetry Art Nights in Milford which provided a juried venue for local artists and poets of all ages to exhibit their work. For this and many other volunteer endeavors, she was named the areas Citizen of the Year in 2002 by the Huron Valley Area Chamber of Commerce. A woman of constant and joyous faith, she was a long time member of Milford Presbyterian Church where she served as an Elder and sang in the choir, her lovely voice and contagious laughter, a form of grace to everyone who knew her. She was an especial blessing to her family, the generations of which she was blessed to see rise up around her.
