Obituary for Sydney M. Zaleski

Sydney Michele Zaleski, a resident of White Lake Township, died in a tragic auto accident with one of her best friends, Shelby Jane Seyburn, on June 3, 2017 at the age of 23.

Sydney Michele Zaleski, a resident of White Lake Township, passed away in a tragic auto accident on June 3, 2017 at the age of 23.

Born in Commerce Township on March 1, 1994 to Kevin and Lisa (Thoms) Zaleski, Sydney grew up in White Lake with her two brothers, Robert and Zachary, and their beloved black lab, Lola. Following graduation from Walled Lake Northern High School, she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Oakland University. Most recently, Sydney was working toward her Certification in Assisted Animal Therapy.

She leaves her parents, Lisa and Kevin; her brothers, Robert (Taleen Najarian) and Zachary; grandmother, Josephine Zaleski; uncles and aunts, Allen Zaleski, Donna Zaleski, David (Sue) Zaleski, Denise Staples, Rick Staples, Colleen (Jeff) Cornell, Robin (the late Nick) Ferrara, Kathy (Phil) Loch, Sandy (John) Ferrara; cousins, Jordan (Lauren) Zaleski, Megan Zaleski, Joe (Thomas Wucherer) Staples, Ryan (Jeannette) Cornell, Samantha (Michael) Wilker, Cassie (Anthony) Bosco, Andrew (Emily Ray) Ferrara, Catie Ferrara, Autumn Pizana, Kendra (Billy) Davidson, Sara Ferrara, Tony Ferrara and many, many dear friends. She was preceded in death by grandparents, Robert Zaleski and Catherine and Ronald Thoms.

Many of us spend a lifetime working to become an authentic version of ourselves, but with Sydney, she was unapologetically herself - every day of her life. Sydney was vivacious, sassy and genuine. She enjoyed doing anything outdoors from water sports to snowboarding to simply soaking up every available ray of sunshine. She always danced and sang as if no one was watching. Sydney had an incredible passion for animals. She pulled over on the side of the road countless times to save a frog, a turtle, or anything that needed help getting on its way. Syd's laugh was infectious and she always found the humor in any situation.

Most of all, Sydney’s life revolved around the people she loved. Her parents and brothers were her biggest fans. Whether riding on the back of Robert's motorcycle or flying on a plane to visit Zach in Texas, she always made time for her brothers, and the adoration was mutual. She was the apple of her father's eye and Sydney and her mother were inseparable. But her loyalty did not stop there. The bonds she had with her friends and extended family were solid and untouchable.

Obviously, Sydney's outer beauty was apparent to all. Her voluminous hair, bright white smile, and her sparkling blue eyes would give any Miss America a run for her money. But her looks didn't hold a candle to her inner beauty. She was the epitome of compassion and grace. There is no denying that her life was cut short and as a result all of our hearts are completely shattered. In her time here on earth she experienced love like most people dream about, and for that we will forever be grateful. Rest easy our beautiful Sydney.

Visitation will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty St., Milford on Tuesday, June 6, from 2-9PM.
