Obituary for Thelma May Jayroe

Thelma May Jayroe of White Lake, Michigan, died at Beaumont Hospital Royal Oak on June 26, 2016 with her children Diane (Dan), Thomas (Lynn) and Leslie (Dan) by her side. She was born on August 26, 1924 and was 91 years young.

She was the baby of her family and very loved. She grew up in Detroit and remembered living through the Great Depression. As a little girl, she would go with friends down the street to meet the ice man who was delivering ice to homes. He would always chop off a small chunk of ice for her and her friends to enjoy while walking home.

In middle school, she set her eyes on a fellow named Thomas J. Jayroe. This was the beginning of a 75 year love affair. Thelma married Tom on May 3, 1946 after he returned from service. They raised three children who she devoted her life to. She drove them to swim practices every day for years and would do anything for her children. She always felt blessed to live close to them and their families. It was a common practice to go out to eat on Friday nights for a local fish fry with all of us.

Thelma enjoyed traveling to Florida, Las Vegas, places abroad and even the down under. She loved life, driving her red Lincoln and shopping. She was ready for a party with little notice and never wanted to miss an event. Thelma will be remembered as a smart, strong and adventurous, beautiful lady.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom, in 2000. She is survived by her daughter, Diane Flattery (Daniel), her son, Thomas Jayroe (Lynn) and her daughter, Leslie Feiten (Daniel). She adored her eight grandchildren Thomas Jayroe (Cara), Patrick Jayroe (Amber), David Jayroe (Jessica), Dan Flattery (Laura), Sean Flattery (Nicole), Ryan Feiten, Kevin Feiten and Tyler Feiten. Thelma is also survived by eight great-grandchildren Thomas, Jack, Abigail, Paisley, Landon, Austin, Lily, and Danielle. She was a great lady that will be missed by all.
