Obituary for Thomas Jerome Jarvis

Thomas Jerome Jarvis, a resident of Harrison, Michigan and former resident of Farmington Hills, Michigan, died at home in the care of his wife on March 7, 2018 after battling his health for many years. He was 71 years old.

He is survived by Georgee, his beloved wife of nearly fifty years; his son, John (Sharon) Jarvis; his daughters, Janis (Tim) Bedard, Michelle (Colin) Jex, and Laurie (Jerry) Werner; his grandchildren, Katelyn Walton, Stephen Bedard, Matthew Bedard, Brandon Warner, Georgee Jex, Travis (Miranda) Jarvis, Stacy (Joey) Neiter, Stephanie Brown, Sammie Jarvis, Erikka Jex, Alastair Jex;
great grandchildren, Skyler Neiter, Kenna Jarvis, Sylia Jarvis, Livi Jarvis, Jaxson Jarvis, Ryker Brown, JoAnne Legalle, Jaana Legalle; sister-in-law, Roberta (Leah Shannon) Grigg, special daughter, Shelia Clayton, many dear friends, and his black Labrador, Demon, with whom he was inseparable.

Tom was born on October 12, 1946 in Pontiac, Michigan, the son of Frank and Margaret (Gagner) Jarvis, and grew up in Farmington Hills. He was a motorcycle enthusiast, owned a body shop painting custom cars for many years and later worked as a builder. In more recent years he taught himself to become skilled at chainsaw art and began Critter Creek Creations in Harrison. In Harrison his artwork can be seen in the yards of many who kept the stumps of fallen trees intact so that Tom could turn them into a beautiful piece in their yards.

Tom was cool, crazy and fun, lovable, and in everything he did, a “badass”. He was known by many as the ‘Pine Cone Warrior’ and everyone saved his seat at the Sportsman Bar where he enjoyed many dear friends. He was a playfully condescending, but ever devoted husband, who let his sentimentality show at times, especially in his planning of marriage renewal of vows on he and Georgee’s 31st wedding anniversary. He was also a badass dad, and absolutely cherished his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Tom had suffered six heart attacks and battled COPD for the last nine years, but never stopped doing the things he loved, and being the strong man and the strong presence in people’s lives that he had always been. He worked his art and took up the painting of landscapes, and was ever ready to scrap with someone giving him a tough time-“let’s go, I got one time left.” Through everything his health brought him, Georgee cared for him personally, and was there for him each hour of every day, a testament to their nearly fifty years of marriage.

A Funeral Service will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty St., Milford, Michigan, on Tuesday, March 13, at 4PM. Friends may gather on Tuesday from 1PM until the time of service.
