Thomas Henry "Shamus" Burke passed away peacefully, in the presence of his loving family, April 24, 2014 at the age of 82.
Beloved husband of the late Joan (Thibodeau). Dearest father of Anne (Ed) Spencer, Ellen (Michael) Horace, Joan (David) Schwaninger, Rita (Scott) Riggs, Mary Burke, and Thomas (Mary) Burke II. Doting grandfather to Michael, Joseph, Katharine, Margaret, James and Curtis. Loving big brother of Kathleen (George) Brown. Devoted uncle to Beth and Becky. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Margaret Burke, and his beloved sister, Rita.
Born in Detroit, Thomas attended Visitation High School, lettering in multiple sports. He also inherited his father�s passion for boxing. He served with honor in the United States Air Force. He was employed as a pressman for the Detroit News for 40 years. He was a proud member of GCIU Local 13. He was an avid fan of the Detroit Tigers and Michigan Wolverines, and is undoubtedly still pulling for a Lions Super Bowl win. Thomas was a proud member of American Legion Post #216 in Milford, and of the Highland Moose Club.
Memorial Visitation will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty St., Milford on Monday, April 28, 2014 from 3-9 PM with a Rosary at 7 PM.
Funeral Mass will be at Church of the Holy Spirit, 3700 Harvey Lake Road, Highland on Tuesday, April 29th at 10 AM. The Rev. Fr. Wayne Ureel to officiate. Interment of ashes Highland Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made in his name to American Heart Association.
