Obituary for Valerie Joy Miller

Valerie Joy Miller, 70, of Milford, Michigan, passed away on Friday, April 22, 2022 surrounded by her youngest daughters, Barbara and Abigail and close friend, Karen B.

Valerie was a devout Christian and a loving mother with a gentle but strict demeanor. Mother of 6, sister to 4.
Born in Pontiac, Michigan April 16,1952 to late Colombus and Carmele Slavens. She grew up in Rochester, Michigan. As a child her mother would send her downtown to pay the electric bill with just enough left over to stop at the Home Bakery for a long John for each of them. As a young woman she would often drag race down Woodward Ave. and was even known for swapping out her own engines. As a young adult she cared for the elderly while caring for her first 4 children. She continued that work until she retired in 2006. She was always the one “documenting” everything, whether it was a birthday or sports meet, she was there with her camera or phone. She had a love for crossword puzzles, sudoku, and watching the Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. She enjoyed spending time sewing clothing for extra income and always enjoyed big Christmas celebrations with all who could attend, both family and friend. She will be greatly missed.

Valerie is survived by her children, Barbara M., Abigail M., Douglas H., Conrad H., and Leah S.; her beautiful grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her sisters, Kathy B.and Kris G.; she was a cherished aunt of numerous nieces and nephews and a friend to many.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 35 years, Timothy Miller; her son, Vaughn Jesse and her sisters, Carmen R. and Donna C.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 28, 2022 beginning at 1:00PM at Maybury State Park, 49601 Eight Mile Road, Northville, Michigan, 48167 in the Oak Shelter.
