Obituary for Victor Wesley Vereecke

Victor Wesley Vereecke died peacefully at his home in Milford, Michigan on August 5, 2017, at the age of 61.

Born in Detroit on August 20, 1955, to Chuck and Fannie Vereecke, the fourth of their five children. Blessed with a sharp mind, an athletic frame, and a zest for life, Victor excelled on the field and in the classroom. He was an Eagle Scout, and married his high school sweetheart, becoming a father to Krista (nee Vereecke) Witz and, later a grandfather to Krista's children, Lucas and Harper. Victor earned his business degree at Wayne State University, where he played football and was an active member of Phi Gamma Chi fraternity. He worked for Ford Motor Company and led a gregarious life-style surrounded by friends and family. A tragic auto accident at age 27 left Victor with brain damage and the loss of his limbs and voice. This did not diminish Victor's spirit or lessen his will to live. Defying long odds, he gained the ability to communicate through winks, smiles, and nods. Together with his sister, Sharon Pellar, he gave school presentations regarding the dangers of drunk driving, earning him a new group of admirers. He continued to attend Detroit Lions games with his father and his brothers Larry Vereecke, Charlie Vereecke and Gordie Vereecke, Vic loved to go to garage sales, and played a mean game of Euchre, Cribbage, and Scrabble competing with friends and family with a wink and a smile. Generous, patient, and always grateful, he passed from this life as he lived it – surrounded by his friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Charles Vereecke, Jr and Fannie (nee. Fishman) Vereecke and is survived by his daughter, Krista Witz; grandchildren, Lucas and Harper; sister, Sharon Pellar; brothers, Larry (Judy), Chuck (Elaine), Gordie as well as many nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty St., Milford on Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at Noon, with visitation from 10 AM until the time of the service.
