Obituary for Virginia Frances Buckley

Virginia F. Buckley, of South Lyon, passed away in the care of her family August 25, 2012.

Virginia Frances Harrison (Buckley) was born on June 14, 1920 to Elbert and Mahee Harrison in Centralia, IL. She is predeceased by an older brother Eulos and a younger sister Dolores and her husband Jim. When she was very young her parents moved the family to live in Dearborn, Michigan for her father to work at Ford Motor Co.. She graduated from Fordson High school and a few years later married her first husband Robert and had a son named David. She later divorced and got a job at Hudson's downtown. A few years later she got a job at DeSoto, where she met James Edward Buckley. They were married in 1948 and moved to Redford Township, where she gave birth to a second son, Steve in 1953. Her favorite job, we think, was working at an Ice Cream shop because she always would talk about it They lived, played and raised their sons there until 1987 where they pulled up roots and moved to Colonial Acres in South Lyon where they resided until 2005 and moved to Assisted Living in Milford. Virginia and Jim were active members of the Tri-V Men's social club and active members of Aldersgate Methodist Church of Redford Township. They traveled and participated in many events and were pretty good golfers as well. They were also active in their community of Colonial Acres and the many events that were there. She will be remembered as a kind, gentle, thoughtful, sweet and loving mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother to her family as well as to her many friends. In the days before having to move to assisted living, she was a wonderful cook and hostess and she always made you feel special whenever she had the opportunity, especially during the holidays or your birthday celebration. When she traveled she always made sure that she would bring back something from wherever they went and say that she thought of you when she saw it. She made the best Texas sheet cake, lemonade cake and many other delicious and fattening desserts (usually she didn't eat them, that's why she was always so thin!) and the best raspberry, strawberry and grape jelly around. Everything and anything she made with love! She use to sew her own clothes and hats (when they were in style) and even sewed some outfits for her grandkids. She was a very special lady and we will all miss her very, very much.

Love from her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Buckley in 2006.

She is survived by sons, David Johnson and Steve (Val) Buckley; grandchildren, Virginia (Steve) Goble, Cheryl (Charlie) Allie, David (Tonya) Johnson, Lindsay (Chad) Ludtke, and Lauren (Tom) Bernier, 10 great-grandchildren and extended family and friends.

Funeral Service from Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty St., Milford on Wednesday, 11 AM. Burial South Lyon Cemetery. Friends may gather Tuesday from 3 - 8 PM.
