Virginia Lois Holtz, a former resident of Grosse Pointe Park, St. Clair Shores, Canterbury-on-the-Lake in Pontiac, and Heather Hills in Grand Rapids, Michigan passed away in the care of her family and Faith Hospice on October 31, 2008. She was 89 years old.
Born on February 9, 1919 in Racine, Wisconsin, the daughter of John and Astrid (Dreier) Buckdahl, Virginia grew up in Detroit where she was a graduate of Southeastern High School. It was at her church, the Iroquois Avenue Christ Lutheran Church, that she met Frederick J. Holtz, Jr. They fell in love and married at the church on June 9, 1945.
Virginia centered her life on her family, friends, sports and her church. Over the years she served as Superintendent of the Sunday School, led the ladies of the church in fellowship and mission, sang with the choir and was active in all aspects of church life.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 57 years, Frederick J. Holtz, Jr. in 2002. She is survived by her son, Don (Louise) Holtz of Highland; daughters, Suzanne (David) Mundhenk of New Jersey, Joann Boruta Mapes of Grand Rapids; grandchildren, Jeff, Chris, Heather, Mike, Bryan, Meghan, and Allison; great grandchildren, James, Samuel, Brianna, Mackenzie, Addison, and Ben; and many dear friends who join her family in mourning her passing and give thanks to God for her life among them.
A Funeral Service will be held at All Saints Lutheran Church, 12701 West Highland Rd., Hartland, on Monday, November 3rd, at 11AM. A viewing will be held starting at 10AM at the church. Memorials may be made in Virginia's name to Faith Hospice at Trillium Woods, 8214 Pheiffer Farms Drive, SW Byron Center, MI 49315 or to Canterbury-on-the-Lake, 5601 Hatchery Road, Waterford, MI 48329.
