Obituary for Virginia Mae Fournier

Virginia Mae Fournier, a longtime resident of Highland, went to be with the Lord on December 28, 2017 at the age of 85.

Born in Hoven, South Dakota on January 7, 1932, Virginia grew up in Pontiac, Michigan where her family moved when she was two and where she graduated from St. Michael’s Parish.  She was one of eleven children born to John Lauinger and Marie (Mary) Ehrmann Lauinger.

She met Lawrence Fournier through his two cousins who were classmates, they were married on September 10, 1949, at St. Michael in Pontiac. They made their home in Highland overlooking Leonard Lake and were members of St. Mary’s Parish in Milford before joining the new Church of the Holy Spirit Parish on their street.  Virginia worked in housekeeping at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Pontiac before retiring in 1980 after twenty years of service.  In retirement she enjoyed antiquing, serving as an appraiser for estate sales, and her camaraderie with the Maria Moore Questers.

At her gingerbread-like home on the hill with a white picket fence, Virginia enjoyed cooking and entertaining for family and friends.  Her fried chicken and potato salad were everyone’s favorite and all remember her proclamation of “best meal I ever made” after completing one her creations.  She was a great party organizer and kept her family close and connected with parties and holidays together at her home.  She was the ‘social glue’ that held her family together and she will be dearly missed.

She was preceded in death by Lawrence, her beloved husband of over fifty-nine years, a daughter, Michelle Campbell, and a son, David Fournier.  She is survived by her daughter, Vivian Compeau; her son, Greg (Rosemary) Fournier; daughter-in-law, Denise Fournier; grandchildren, Jennifer (Brandon) Leslie, Andrew (Carlie) Fournier, Matt (Niki) Fournier, Sara (Justin) Ellis, Amanda (Christopher) Carpinelli, Laura Fournier, Katie Fournier, Larry Fournier, and Jacob Fournier; great grandchildren, Morgan Leslie, Logan and Kacen Carpinelli, Jaime, Nora, and Miles Fournier, and Laney Ellis; siblings, Richard Lauinger, Rosemary Mielke, Patricia McLaughlin, Edward Lauinger, Betty Miller, Kathy Shadrick, Frank Lauinger, and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Mass of the Resurrection will be held at Church of the Holy Spirit, 3700 N. Harvey Lake Rd., Highland, on Thursday, January 4, at 10AM with The Rev. Fr. Wayne Ureel officiating. A luncheon will follow at the church. Burial Highland Cemetery. Friends may visit at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E.
