Virginia Boomer, a long time resident of Commerce, MI, died on Friday, March 19, 2021 surrounded by her five children. She was 92 years old.
A native Detroiter, she was born at the start of the Great Depression and grew up during World War II and after high school went to nursing school through Providence Hospital where, as a working nurse, she met her husband, James H. Boomer, while caring for him as a patient in hospital. That courtship grew into a lifelong romance and marriage that only ended with his death in 2003. They raised five children in Redford Twp. and built a home in Commerce where she remained through her widowhood and old age, never outgrowing her interest in medicine and nursing and being the caregiver to her growing family. Virginia was a woman of deep faith, a devout Catholic, active in her parish prayer groups and nursing ministries, the ever-reliable matriarch of “the Boomer Clan.” Virginia never tired of gardening, baking, reading and camping, shopping with her daughters, travel and talk, spending time up north and spoiling her 13 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. She took seriously all the tender offices of love and family, hope in the future of the generations that grew up around her and faith in a loving God who guided her.
Daughter of the late Boleslaw J. and Bertha (nee. Butke) Mazuchowski; sister of the late Ernie Mazuchowski, Bro. Adrian Richard Mazuchowski, M.M. and Evelyn Gola.
Virginia is survived by her children, Janet Wrosch, Jim (Michelle) Boomer, Sharon (Jim) LaPorte, Debbie (Mike) Wilkinson and Diane Boomer; 13 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, as well as many extended family and dear friends who join in mourning the passing of a good and Godly woman, while giving thanks for her many years of love among us.
