Obituary for Walter A. Woodworth

Walter Adams Woodworth, a native of Wixom, and resident of Louisville, Kentucky died on September 11, 2012. He was eighty-six years old.

Born in Milford on September 5, 1926, the son of Earl Cleveland Woodworth and Alma Grace Porter, Walter grew up in Wixom and was a graduate of Walled Lake High School. He attended Ferris State University and graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a Bachelor of Science in Education. On July 13, 1963, he married the love of his life, Elsie Chambers.

Being a jack-of-all-trades, Walter worked for a time for the railroad and also with Wixom Cemetery where he opened graves and mowed the grass. He later worked as a janitor with the Walled Lake School District, and was retired from Graco manufacturing in Wixom, where he was a steel cutter.
Throughout his life he enjoyed sharing his knowledge of Wixom history, and traveling whenever possible (he was able to visit all 48 contiguous states with his wife and son). In his later years he developed an interest in making canes from natural wood.

In addition to Elsie, his beloved wife of over forty-nine years, he is survived by his son, Brian Woodworth of Redford, a sister, Beth Livingston of Howell and much extended family and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Alma (Porter) Woodworth, and his brother George Woodworth of Milford and many dear friends.
