Obituary for Wanda Helene (Luikens) Dryer

Wanda Helene (Luikens) Dryer, a resident of Milford, Michigan (55 years a summer resident of Lake City, Michigan,) completed her life�s journey Tuesday, October 14, 2008, she left to begin her new life celebration. She will be missed... always.

Born on April 18th, 1912 and raised in Kalamazoo, Wanda was the daughter of Ties and Katherine Luikens, and sister to Virginia (Maurice) DeWitte. She graduated from Kalamazoo College and later went on to complete a Master�s Degree from the University of Michigan. Her commitment to others led her to teaching and later as a student counselor at Lakeview High School in Battle Creek Michigan. After meeting R. Eldridge Dryer who was also a teacher, she fell in love and married in Kalamazoo, Michigan on September 16, 1940. Mr. & Mrs. Dryer were blessed with three children. The couple lived in Manistee, Mount Pleasant, Battle Creek, Lake City and finally Milford, Michigan. They spent summers at their Lake City home enjoying northern Michigan. Wanda loved seeing her family grow with the addition of grandchildren, and great grandchildren and found her greatest joys in the company of students, colleagues, friends, and family. She loved to travel, was interested in public affairs, and was an avid reader. Her rich faith in God and commitment to Church always played an important part in her life and she especially enjoyed being a member of the Lake City Presbyterian Church. Wanda will be in the prayers of her family, and serve as a guide post for them.

In addition to her beloved husband, R. Eldridge Dryer, (d. July 6, 1999) Wanda was preceded in death by her sister, Virginia (Maurice) DeWitte. She is survived by her children, Michael (Gloria) Dryer, Shawn (Juanita) Dryer, and Laurel (Randy) Kibiloski; Her grandchildren: Leslie (Scott) Edson, Matthew Dryer, Kelly Dryer, Cory Dryer, Jodi (Jason) Porter, A. Kate (Jason) Sims; and her 5 great-grandchildren also survive.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, October 17, 2008, at 1PM at Lynch and Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty Street, Milford with The Rev. Dr. R. John Harris officiating. Friends and family may visit from 12PM until the time of service. Memorials are encouraged to be made to First Presbyterian Church of Lake City, P0 Box 508, 148 S.
