Obituary for William James Johnston, III.

William James Johnston, III, a resident of White Lake, passed away in the care of his family on October 30, 2012. He was 66 years old.

Born May 29, 1946, in Detroit, Michigan, William was the first of two sons born to parents, William James Johnston, II, and Betty (nee Goetz). William and his brother, Eric, were raised in Redford and Farmington Hills. William graduated from Clarenceville High School in 1964. He earned Bachelor of Science degrees in Music and Organ from Kalamazoo College. William and close friends then took the family�s sailboat on an �around the world� adventure and told tales of the trip throughout his life.

William met Lynda M. Rohrbeck while they worked on producing their first musical together. Bill and Lynda went on to produce the shows at Lakeland High School and started Huron Valley Community Theatre. They married in 1976 and began their lives together in Union Lake. William and Lynda were blessed by the births of their two sons, William, IV, and Christopher.

William was a dedicated church organist and choir director who served God at many local churches, most recently Grace Lutheran Church in Redford. He was a gifted musician and educator who had a very special talent for teaching music to others.

In addition to Lynda, his beloved wife of 36 years, William is survived by his sons, William J. (Amanda) Johnston, IV, and Christopher A. (Sarah) Johnston; soon-to-be-born grandson, William J. Johnston, V; brother Eric (Martha) Johnston; sister-in-law Karri (Mark) Looker; nephew Benjamin Looker and niece Anna Looker. William is also survived by extended family and a host of dear friends and former students who mourn his passing and give thanks to God for his life among them.

Memorial Service to be held at Grace Lutheran Church, 25630 Grand River Ave., (east of Beech Daly) Redford, on Monday at 12 Noon with gathering beginning one hour prior. Rev. Timothy Halboth and the Dr. Rev. Victor Halboth to officiate. Friends may gather at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty St., Milford on Sunday from 1 - 8 PM.
