Obituary for William Love

William Love, 91, passed away Friday, January 02, 2009. Bill was born December 12, 1917 in Port Arthur, Texas to the late Abraham and Ella Love. His family moved to Detroit, Michigan where he grew up and graduated from Central High School. Bill married his high school sweetheart, Mary Jane Cooley, and they were happily married for 72 years. After serving in the US Navy during WWII, Bill opened his own business, Love�s Leather & Findings. Along with his wife, Mary, they created and operated a wonderful business serving shoe repairmen in Michigan and surrounding Midwest states, and was one of the largest independent suppliers in the country. The business operated for a span of 50+ years. They had three daughters, Ella, Idette, and Dale.

Bill was a 32nd Degree Mason and received his lifetime recognition from Union Lodge in Detroit in 1992. He was also very active in the Shrine. Bill was the most kind-hearted person and would give the shirt off his back if someone was in need. Bill had many accomplishments. He was a highly successful businessman who was known nationally and internationally. He served as president of the Shoe Service Institute and was Master of Union Lodge. He was a member of the Chanters and Provost Shrine units. His greatest pride was his family, which was always first in his life. He was outgoing, gregarious and always spoke from the heart. He was instantly liked by everyone who met him. Retirement years were spent in West Palm Beach, Florida. Still thinking of others, he would collect aluminum cans to raise money for the Shrine Hospitals serving children. Bill was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

He is survived by his loving wife, Mary; daughter Ella and her husband Douglas Sprung, and daughter Dale Diane Phillips. Bill was preceded in death by his daughter, Idette Louise Wright and his brother Max Love. He is also survived by his seven grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren: Sandy Wright Goetz and her husband Brian and their children Jarad, Parker, Ian, Brianna; Steven Sprung and his wife Mary and their children Madison, Lindsay, Kristin; Teri Wright and her children Kayla, Brent, Hunter; Bill Wright and his wife Jody and their children Will, Jana; Andrea Sprung Arnhold and her husband Rick; Joe Walts and his wife Rachel; Christopher Walts and his wife Natalie and many loving extended family members and dear friends.

Visitation will be at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 East Liberty, Milford from 2-5 p.m., Sunday, January 4 with Masonic Service at 4:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held at Noon on Monday, January 5 at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, Milford with Pastor Mark Jensen officiating. Memorials may be made to the Shriner's Hospitals for Children. Interment will be at White Chapel Cemetery in Troy, Michigan.
