Obituary for William Patrick Ryder

William Patrick Ryder, a resident of Commerce Twp. and former resident of Detroit, died on September 24, 2015 after recently being diagnosed with cancer. He was 73 years old.

Born on July 24, 1942 in Detroit, Michigan, the son of William Joseph Ryder and Lilyan Stevens Ryder, Pat grew up in Detroit where he attended St. Scholastica grade school and graduated from University of Detroit Jesuit High School, the University of Detroit, and the University of Detroit Law School with his Juris Doctorate.

He went to work with the City of Detroit and served in the Assessor’s Office during the terms of four mayors, along with being active in politics and campaigning for good causes and good people. After his retirement from the city he opened his own private practice in Southfield where he worked as a Tax Lawyer for many years.

He served on the Board of Directors for Community Social Services and was an active member of St. Mary Our Lady of the Snows Parish in Milford where he taught catechism and served as a Lector.

Pat enjoyed his home on Commerce Lake and loved his neighbors in the subdivision. He loved to have a good time and enjoyed times spent boating, playing euchre and pinochle, golfing, and bowling with his Detroit Athletic Club brothers on Tuesday nights for the past twenty-four years.

Pat was ever a great husband a great dad. He loved Rosedale Park and his children have fond memories of all of the sports and the coaching of their sports that he enjoyed there. Everything he did, all the decisions he made, was about family.

He is survived by Lucila, his beloved wife of over twenty-eight years; daughter, F. Josephine “Anne” (Jeff) Arrowwood-Ross; sons, James (Elyse) Ryder, Kevin (Debbie) Ryder and Matthew Ryder; grandchildren, Lark, Morgan, David, Matthew, Angelina and Julian.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Joseph Ryder and Lilyan Stevens Ryder, a wife, Kaye Bell Ryder, and a daughter, Michele Ryder.


Visitation will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty St., Milford, on Sunday, September 27, from 2-9PM, with a Vigil Service at 7PM.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church, 1955 E. Commerce Rd., Milford, on Monday, September 28, at 11AM with The Rev. Msgr. John Budde officiating.
