Obituary for Nathan Pernick

Nathan Pernick of Commerce died on Friday, May 6, 2011 surrounded by his family. He was 19 years old.

2010 Walled Lake Central Graduate, 4 year marching band and color/winter guard member Nate Pernick passed away this morning at 6:30 AM. Nate loved life, loved his friends and family, and loved being a member of the color guard. His passion and ability for color guard combined with great work ethic lead him to the top of the activity. In High School Nate not only marched at Walled Lake Central, but he also earned a position performing for one of the most prestigious color guards and drum and bugle corps in the world- the Santa Clara Vanguard from Santa Clara CA. During his senior year Nate was selected to the U.S. Army All-American Marching Band, the highest honor any student can receive in this activity. Upon graduation Nate then earned a position with another world class ensemble, the Madison Scouts from Madison WI. There, with his best friends Bobby Jones and Michael Rickards in tow, he thrilled audiences all over the United States. This past weekend, Nate and a friend were driving down to audition for the Carolina Crown from Fort Mill, SC. Unfortunately there was a car accident and Nate suffered injuries that were ultimately catastrophic. He fought hard before succumbing to his injuries. Nate passed away this morning at approximately 6:30 AM. On a personal note, Nate Pernick was one of the most creative, talented, and hard working students I have ever had. Nate set the example by constantly working to perfect his craft. I have rarely been so proud as when I have watched Nate perform with some of the most Iconic groups in the marching world. What a great example Nate provided for working hard, having a passion for something, and not letting fear of failure hold you back. Because of that, Nate was able to accomplish things that will stand as an example of excellence in the Walled Lake Central Bands forever. Nate never stopped supporting Walled Lake Central Bands either. Often this past season I had the great joy of seeing him come to shows or a practice and sharing a laugh or some stories. There is a reason why everyone in the Walled Lake Central Guard dreams of throwing an 8 in a show and making that perfect catch. It all started with a little guy who wanted it, who was determined to get it, and who thrilled us with it time after time. Nate Pernick lead the way, and his influence will live on.

Our hearts go out to his loving parents, Jeff & Mary Pernick; brother, Brian and sister, Sarah Pernick; grand parents, Maureen Boland, Patricia Boyle, Elsie Ehrhardt; Aunts & Uncles, Linda Gillespie, Betty Pernick, Cathy (Joe) Garanzini, Pattie (Eddie) Dluzynski, Bill (Julia) Boland, Ann (Troy) Beasely, Jason (Kimberly) Pernick, Kurt Pernick, David Pernick, Katty Pernick, Amy (Scott) Glinski; cousins, Liz, Maureen, Scott, Tim, Leesa (Chuck), Madison, and Kilien, Justin & Meghan, Shaye, Liam, Aiden, Riley & Kerry, Jesseca, Jason, Jenna & Jeremy.

He was preceded in death by his grand parents, William Boland, Terrance Boyle, Bus Ehrhardt, Nathan Pernick.
