Obituary for Doris Mary Flynn

Doris Mary Flynn of Milford passed on August 4, 2012 at West Hickory Haven Nursing Home in the wonderful care of the skilled staff and family at bedside. She was 96 years old.

Born in Highland Park on July 21, 1916, the daughter of Fred and Mattie Caldwell, Doris grew up in the Detroit area and graduated from Northwestern High School on West Grand Blvd. She later met Richard Flynn, they were married on October 1, 1937 and moved to Highland Park where they started their family. They moved to Milford and raised four children; three sons, Gerald, Robert, Dennis and daughter, Deborah. She was a loving grandmother of eleven, great grandmother of fourteen and great-great grandmother of one.

Throughout her life she worked as a switchboard operator for Bell Telephone, a secretary for New York Life Insurance in Detroit, Community National bank in Milford, Huron Valley School district for eleven years and retired from General Motors Proving Grounds reprographics department after ten years.

She was a faithful and active member of Milford Presbyterian Church for sixty-six years. She served as Clerk of Session, Elder, President of the Literary Club, Deacon, and as a member of the choir.

Doris� first love was her family but she also loved to travel with her two best friends, Dorothy Wilson and Doris Wilkinson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard S. Flynn, a son, Gerald, and granddaughter, Brynn Ann.
She is survived by sons, Robert (Jill) and Dennis (Kitty); daughter, Deborah; daughter-in-law, Alice Flynn; grandchildren, Shannon, Bridget (Roger), Erin, Kathleen, Jeffrey (Lisa), Richard (Michelle), Heather (Mark), Charity, Christina, and Brian; great grandchildren, Sean, Eric, Luke, Colin, Ashley, Kyle, Megan, Nicole, Emily, Samantha, Mark, Joseph, Nathan, and Elizabeth; great great granddaughter, Evelyn and many dear friends.

A Funeral Service will be held at the Milford Presbyterian Church, 238 N. Main St., Milford, on Monday, August 6, at 11AM with the Rev. Anne Schaefer officiating. Burial will follow at Milford Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty St., Milford, Sunday, August 5, 1-9PM.
