Ronald James Grundy, a forty year resident of Hartland, passed away peacefully at his home on March 20, 2013 after a brief battle with cancer. He was 65 years old.
Born in Detroit on July 26, 1947, Ron was the son of James & Dorothy Grundy. He grew up in Detroit and attended Schoolcraft College for his Liberal Arts education and Technical education from Detroit Edison making his longtime career with Detroit Edison as a Station and Substation Manager. Ron later moved to Hartland Township where he immersed himself in community and civic service; later elected to serve as treasurer for Hartland Township. Ron continued his work with Detroit Edison, enjoying the camaraderie and friendships with his coworkers. In addition to his work with Detroit Edison and as Treasurer, Ron remained an active member and former president of Hartland Jaycees, Hartland Lions Club and the Livingston County Republican Party where his strong and balanced belief in a two-party system made him an objective voice in public politics.
Ron had a tough exterior and a noticeably low voice that sheltered his truly sensitive nature. He loved people and was a great man to have on your side. In his free time he enjoyed playing Euchre at Hartland and Brighton Senior Centers, membership through his local gun club as well as the NRA, flying and piloting his plane. He spoke German fluently and was a sociable man able to drum up good conversation with anyone he met.
Ron is survived by his beloved wife, Gale, and his son, Erich; sisters, Alice (Larry) Hill, Laura (Frank) Straus, Marlene Krawchenko; many nieces and nephews, dear friends and acquaintances.
A Funeral Service will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty, Milford, Saturday, March 23 at 10 AM with The Rev. Christopher I. Thoma officiating. Burial Hodge Cemetery, Hartland. Friends may visit Friday 3-9 PM. For further information please call 248-684-6645.
