Obituary for David Lowell Nelson

David Lowell Nelson was born on August 12, 1937 in Onaway, Michigan. As a child, he moved with his family to Eaton Rapids, Michigan and then to Plymouth, Michigan where he was graduated from high school in 1955. He then graduated in 1960 with a Master�s Degree in Electrical Engineering from Michigan State University.

David and Judy married in 1959 and moved to Milford early in their married life where they lived in the same home for 52 years. Their garden, flowers and yard were important to them. David became an avid hunter as a teenager and continued hunting throughout his life.

He spent his career in the computer industry and was a pioneer in the industry. He earned several patents while helping to design the first computer disk drives.

David was preceded in death by his parents: Helmer and Evelyn Swenson Nelson and by his brother, Evan James.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Judy, and their children: Cathy Nelson (Andy Lenhart), Jeff Nelson, Ken Nelson (Amy Nelson) and Susie Wing (Eric Wing), extended family and friends. His grandchildren are: Anna Nelson-Lenhart, Beth Nelson-Lenhart, Jonah and Chloe Nelson and Katie and Jolie Wing. David loved his children and grandchildren and found great joy in their accomplishments.

A Funeral Service will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty, Milford, Saturday, June 22 at 11 AM. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday from 4-8PM. During his retirement years, David developed a strong interest in astronomy, physics and astrophysics. Because of this, the decision was made to contribute his memorials to the Saturday Morning Physics Lecture Program at University of Michigan: U of M Physics Department, 2484 B. Randall Lab, 450 Church Street, Ann Arbor, MI 48109-1040. He often attended these lectures and enjoyed them again online. For further information please contact Lynch & Sons 248-684-6645.
